Helping hearts at work

Keeping your heart healthy at work

The average full-time worker spends1,800 hours per year at work, which means its just as important fo look after your heart at work as well as at home.  What's more, keeping healthy at work needn't be a chore.

Workplace stress, long periods sitting down, the daily commute, business lunches, working away from home, unhealthy canteen choices, vending machines or eating on the go can all have a detrimental effect on your heart and your health. Click on to the links above for some useful tips and advice to give your heart and body the best chance of a healthy working life right through to the day you retire and beyond.

Heart disease is still the UK's biggest killer, but by getting into good routine lifestyle habits you can reduce your risk of heart disease and live healthier, happier, longer life.

Information for employers

The benefits to organisations looking after their workforce are enormous and should be seen as an investment which will reap huge rewards in:

  • reduced sickness absentence
  • preventing long-term illness
  • increased productivity
  • create team building opportunities
  • enhance employee engagement, motivation and morale
  • improve company profile and reputation

We can support you in developing workplace health initiatives by providing confidential, one to one lifestyle consultations, workshops, advice & ideas, healthy heart tips, resources, leaflets, posters and lots, lots more.

Your workplace activities can also lead to a recognised Healthy Heart Mark employer award.

  • What is the Healthy Heart Mark?

The Healthy Heart Mark (HHM) employer award is a simple and cost-effective programme that shows your organisation values its workforce and make a positive contribution towards employee health and wellbeing.

  • How does the Healthy Heart Mark work?

Our Lifestyle team will work closely with you to agree easy to implement initiatives tailored to your organisations needs.

We will carry out confidential one-to-one healthy heart lifestyle consultations and give practical help and advice towards improving lifestyles to reduce risk of heart disease.  We can also provide a company health profile from which future progress can be measured.

A programme of employer led activities to encourage healthy eating, physical activity, not smoking and managing stress is then implemented taking the company through bronze silver and gold stages after which you are awarded the Healthy Heart Mark employer award. You will also get a certificate at each stage and an engraved plaque to showcase your achievement.

  • How much does it cost?

It's more important for us that you look after the hearts of your staff than making money.

We only charge for our consultant's time to carry out employee consultations which is £150 per consultant per day plus travel expenses outside West Yorkshire, and a set up fee of £200.  We will base our costs on a minimum of 50% of the workforce taking up consultations but of course more days can be booked if required. Our consultants can see around 20 people each per day.

There is no charge for any management time, resources or support costs.
