Project title: Helping Hand Healthy Heart Project
Region: Central, Birmingham
Award amount: £7168
The Ashiana Community Project, based in Birmingham, was awarded our Central grant to deliver their ‘Helping Hand Healthy Heart Project’. The project will target individuals over the age of 35 in the BAME community, who have concerns about their heart health due to either current health concerns or a family history of heart problems.
The programme will work with individuals referred by their GP, to offer a flexible health and wellbeing programme including education, advice, and health coaching, which aims to holistically support individuals to improve their heart health. Key components of the programme include an eight-session educational course which will be followed up with one-to-one diet and fitness planning and cookery workshops. The key aims of the project are to impart knowledge upon those most vulnerable to heart problems and observe tangible improvements in key heart-related risk factors, including high BMI and high blood pressure.
