Project Title: Pump it up
Award: £7,000

Aimed at children aged 10-12 across 10 of the most deprived and remote primary schools in South Ayrshire, ‘Pump it up’ combines engaging educational workshops with football to inspire a healthy heart lifestyle. Sessions are based on fun games, creativity and team building, including seeing how fast kids can pump up a football and how much energy it takes to keep your heart pumping for longer.

Children are learning how hard the heart works to pump blood around the body and why keeping active and eating the right balance of heart healthy foods is important to make your heart stronger. Take home skills cards help children to learn different ways of keeping active at home, whilst also raising aspirations as they train to be the best they can be.

Not your run-of-the-mill school lesson, these aspiring athletes are designing their own snack bars, analysing heart rate data, re-assessing their packed lunches and running a school swap shop. A multi-school league table tracks their progress and will reward star players with a trip to an Ayr United FC football game, culminating in a football festival for the wider rural community.
