Project Title: Brighter Futures
Award: £10,000

‘Brighter Futures’ is a varied and engaging programme of heart healthy activities for pupils, parents, grand-parents and the wider rural community of Coalisland.
The project includes Fruity Friday school snack time in school (fruit kebabs and smoothies), a Ready, Steady, Cook themed six week food awareness programme targeting 7-11 year olds and a ‘cook off’ which will engage parents. During the summer holidays there will be a two week summer camp for 4-11 year olds made up of fun ways to get active and wise up on making healthy choices.

Not just for kids, the ‘Generation Games’ will target the whole community and involve a family health day and taster sessions for different sports including Tai Chi and archery. Parents are invited to take part in children’s PE lessons and all are encouraged to join the healthy hearts four week couch to 5K culminating in a 5K park run.
The project hopes to combat unhealthy lifestyles and encourage the whole community to get fit and healthy together, developing a Healthy Heart culture in Coalisland.
