Masterclass 2017 Liverpool - Aortic Surgery

Course overview

Following the success and popularity of previous aortic surgery masterclasses, we are pleased to announce that another is taking place on Friday 24 November 2017. The course will be held in the Human Anatomy Resource Centre at the University of Liverpool and be led by Miss Deborah Harrington, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

Aortic surgery is an area of subspecialisation uncommonly encountered by the majority of cardiac surgeons.  In most UK centres, it is difficult to train in aortic arch surgery and valve sparing root replacement due to both case complexity and low volume.  Most senior cardiac surgical trainees will never perform such surgery and most recently-appointed consultants will have had only limited exposure to these cases.

This course will provide a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience of total aortic arch replacement and valve sparing root replacement, supervised by an expert faculty of both national and international repute.  It is aimed at recently-appointed consultant cardiac surgeons or surgeons wishing to progress to perform aortic surgery, and senior trainees in cardiac surgery.

This course is accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
