One of our brave and determined supporters, Melanie Langer, is taking on a gruelling multi-stage Jungle Marathon for us in Costa Rica on 10 February and we couldn’t be more impressed with her.
She is embarking upon this challenge in memory of her Dad, Mike Austreng, who suffered a fatal cardiac arrest whilst on holiday in Costa Rica. Melanie is fundraising to do her bit and help people live healthier, happier, longer lives.
Melanie is currently nearing the end of her 6 month training programme for The Coastal Challenge (http://thecoastalchallenge.com). This gruelling multi-stage race covers 236km over the course of six consecutive days. She will run through remote areas of the Costa Rican rainforest, incorporating challenging terrain as well as multiple mountain ascents in excess of 34,000 feet. She has been told to anticipate extreme humidity and temperatures well in excess of 30 degrees. I’m sure you can appreciate the practicality of training for such an event in a European climate has not been without its challenges for Melanie.
