Charity Football Match in support of the Barry Sawbridge Memorial Fund

Congratulations to HRUK Ambassador, Craig Sawbridge, who with the help of family and friends, put together a brilliant event in memory of his father, the late Barry Sawbridge.

What a great turnout to see the Leicester City Legends take on the Barry Sawbridge XI in aid of Heart Research UK. Leicester City Legends were made up of Steve Walsh, Muzzy Izzet, Matt Piper, Steve Guppy, Julian Joachim, Matt Elliott and Boxer Rendall Munroe.  A special mention to Leicester City F.C. for allowing the Premier League trophy to be displayed at the event and Caterpillar, Desford for the use of the facilities on the day.

Plenty of food and drink, music, raffle and auction, bouncy castles as well as the chance to grab a photo alongside the Premier League Trophy kept people entertained throughout the day.

Over £4,000 was raised from the event which will be used towards projects funded by Heart Research UK in the Leicester area in Barry's Memory. Sadly, Barry passed away after suffering a heart attack in December 2015.  Shortly after his death, his family set up The Barry Sawbridge Memorial Fund as the family wanted to continue Barry’s legacy of supporting our research in the Midlands.  We are grateful for the generosity of Barry, Maria and their family and friends and will continue to work in the Midlands to ensure that The Barry Sawbridge Memorial Fund remains a fitting tribute to the tireless work Barry and Maria have done for our charity.
