On your marks, get set, go! Today marks the first day you can apply for your Virgin Money London Marathon 2019 place.
Every year, 40,000 runners take on the iconic 26.2 mile course. This year we were lucky to have 24 runners take on the challenge for Heart Research UK, who raised a fantastic £70,000!
The money raised helps us to continue funding pioneering medical research across the UK, helping people to live healthier, happier and longer lives.
This includes recently helping to pay for ‘heart in a box’ – a revolutionary organ care system that allows a donor heart to stay warm and beating outside the human body. It has the potential to allow surgeons to carry out up to 50% more heart transplants every year and will increase the number of suitable organs for patients nationwide.
So how can you apply for your place at the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon?
The ballot is open until Friday 4 May. Once closed, runners are then picked at random.
You’ll find out if you have a place in October 2018.
How can I run for Heart Research UK?
If you’re lucky enough to get a place and wish to raise money for Heart Research UK, contact Rachel, our Community Engagement Officer, on 0113 234 7474. We would love to have your support.
If you unfortunately do not get a place, all is not lost. You can still run for Heart Research UK as a charity entry.
Due to the number of applicants we get, we also host our own ballot for runners who do not get an official place. You can apply on our website.
We’ll be with you every step of the way. Your fundraising will go a long way in helping prevent, treat and cure heart disease in the UK – something we can only achieve together.
