One of Heart Research UK’s valued charity partners has raised a massive £61,901.24 after a year of celebratory fundraising – smashing their own £50,000 target.
Emerald Group Publishing, based in Bingley, West Yorkshire, celebrated their 50th anniversary in style by hosting fundraising events throughout 2017, including car washes, bake sales and a 24-hour DJ marathon.
In May, 80 members of staff climbed The Yorkshire Three Peaks raising £28,000.
Their 50th anniversary came in the same year we celebrated our own 50th birthday, and three years after Emerald Group Publishing first started their relationship with us.
Our Chief Executive, Barbara Harpham, said: “Well done to everyone who helped to raise such a record-breaking amount. Thank you of course to Emerald Group’s charity committee who without, none of this would have been possible”.
Sara Price, chairman of Emerald’s charity committee, said: “Compared to previous years, this was by far the biggest target. All departments at Emerald got behind the cause, and the friendly competition of a department fundraising leaderboard ensured the initiative was a big success”.
The money raised will go to help fund one of our Novel and Emerging Technologies (NET) Grants – a research project at the University of Leicester to develop a simple, accurate and cost-effective test to predict which patients are at risk of sudden cardiac death and whose lives could be saved with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator.
Emerald Group were inspired to raise money for this NET Grant following the sudden death of their Chairman Martin Fojt, due to a heart attack in 2014.
