That’s why we invest in grants to support outstanding PhD students, helping them drive progress in their fields.

One PhD studentship will be awarded each year and a Clinical and non-clinical PhD studentships can be applied for.

Clinical PhD Studentships

Clinical PhDs will be supported through shared funding with the institution. Heart Research UK will cover part of the salary up to the maximum amounts in the table above, in addition to consumables costs and tuition fees, with the host intuition paying the remaining salary costs.

2025 awards:

Maximum award: £122,500

Grant applications accepted from the beginning of May each year

Closing date for applications: 3rd June 2025

Awards announced: November 2025
