Leeds-based national charity Heart Research UK’s inaugural ‘Beat It Battle’ challenge at Firehouse Fitness gym has been won by a team from TransUnion.

The challenge, which saw teams of four from local business battle it out over a three week period to record the highest effort/calories burned, culminated in a final showdown between a team from TransUnion and a team from Henry Hyams Solictors.

The victorious team, ‘The Fat and the Furious’, claim the Beat It Battle trophy and also win lifetime membership to Firehouse Fitness Gym.

Jonny Nichols, one of the winning team, said: “It was great fun participating in the Beat it Battle Challenge.

“I managed to lose a stone while supporting a great cause. It just goes to show a little effort can make a huge difference to your overall health!”

Teammate Liam Todd said: It really helped to stop making excuses of having no time to exercise, and great for working together as a team.

We’re all at critical points in projects so really busy at work, but going to the gym together on lunch was a great way to reset for the afternoon and built a great atmosphere.”

Isabel McKenzie, Corporate fundraiser at Heart Research UK said: “We are so thrilled with the success of the inaugural Beat it Battle! This challenge was all about getting people working in Leeds up and moving on their lunch breaks, kick-starting their exercise and raising money for Heart Research UK.

“According to Get Britain Standing, sitting for more than 4 hours a day can increase the risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes and muscle and joint pain, so we’re delighted that businesses in Leeds took part and shook up their daily routines.

“A huge thank you to everyone that took part, and congratulations to our champions from TransUnion!”

The next Heart Research UK Beat it Battle will take place in early 2020. To register your interest or to find our more, please contact Isabel on 0113 234 7474 or email
