Cardiothoracic Organ Retrieval, Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support

Course Overview 
This intensive three-day masterclass offers comprehensive, hands-on training in cardiothoracic organ retrieval, transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support (MCS). Aimed primarily at senior cardiac surgery trainees and newly appointed consultant surgeons (within their first 2–3 years), it also welcomes applications from other theatre staff involved in organ retrieval and transplantation.

Participants will gain practical experience in:

  • Heart and lung retrieval
  • Heart and lung transplantation as separate organs
  • Heart–lung en-bloc transplantation
  • Short- and long-term mechanical circulatory support

 

Nurses’ Training
An additional half-day session is provided for nursing staff, covering key aspects of organ retrieval procedures and equipment. Topics include Donation after Circulatory Death (DCD) and Donation after Brain Death (DBD) retrievals, theatre setup and transplant box management, and an overview of the National Organ Retrieval Service (NORS) and Donor Care Physiologists (DCPs).

Registration Fees

Nurses/Surgical Practioners: £75 (2.5 days, 11th–13th March)
Doctors: £350 (2 days, 12th –13th March)
