Creating 3D heart models of the Gerlis collection
Surgery
Congenital heart disease (CHD) affects, on average, 13 babies a day in the UK, however many of the types of CHD remain poorly understood.
The Gerlis collection is a collection of hearts with congenital heart defects to be used in education and surgical training, however access to it is very limited.
This research team will obtain digital images of the Gerlis collection using an MRI scanner and establish a digital archive, including the development of holograms. This will allow more people to learn from the Gerlis collection and improve our understanding of congenital heart disease.
The development of a new AI-supported model for imaging the heart based on data from over 700 people with atrial fibrillation, allow ablation to be more personalised to individual patients.
