Heart failure is thought to affect around 1 million people in the UK. Many patients with heart failure have severe muscle weakness but no effective drug treatments are available.
This team have previously discovered that a high level of a protein called MuRF1 may have an important role in this muscle weakness.
This project will further investigate the involvement in MuRF1 in heart failure-induced muscle weakness and aims to identify new drug treatments for loss of muscle strength. If effective, this will improve symptoms, quality of life and survival in heart failure patients.
