Phoebe's Story

Phoebe ran the Berlin Marathon 2026 for Heart Research UK.

On the 29th of March 2022, my world was turned upside down, and my life changed forever. Our beloved Nana Wig suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Over the following 22 hours, she went through a series of cardiac events, and on the 30th of March 2022, our Wig gained her wings far sooner than any of us could have imagined.

During that heartbreaking time, the incredible doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants at Broadgreen Hospital never stopped. They provided our family with extraordinary care, comfort, and compassion, and treated our Queen with the utmost dignity every step of the way.

Sadly, our family’s experience with heart disease did not end there. For generations, we have faced the impact of various heart conditions, challenges that have tested us deeply. Since losing Wig, I’ve made it my mission to learn more about the lifesaving work being done in cardiovascular health and the technology behind it.

CPR is a fundamental skill that one day you may need. Nearly four years ago, I would never have dreamed of having to use my CPR training; I am forever grateful I was equipped to help my Nan.

I am honoured to be running the Berlin Marathon as part of the Heart Research UK team. Being able to raise donations for this cause fills me with gratitude and emotion, as it’s something deeply personal and close to my heart.
