Lucy's story

Lucy took on the Cardiff half marathon for Heart Research UK.

On the 16th February 2024, I unexpectedly lost my beautiful mam. My life changed forever that day. Being so young and having to grow up without her has been the most challenging experience of my life. Her loss is the reason I wanted to take on this challenge.

Her loss has made me realise just how short and precious life really is. It’s made me want to do the things I always put off, to take on challenges I never thought I could, and to live life to the fullest the way she would have wanted me to.

This october , I’ll be taking on the Cardiff half marathon in support of Heart Research UK. This race is for my mam. Every mile I run, I’ll be thinking of her, hoping she’s with me every step of the way, pushing me forward and keeping me strong. I’m doing this to honour her memory, to raise awareness, and to support research that could help other families avoid the heartbreak we’ve been through. More than anything, I hope I can make her proud.

Thank you to everyone who supports, donates, or even just takes a moment to read my story. It truly means more than you’ll ever know.
