Jack's Story

I am running the Sydney Marathon for Heart Research UK in memory of my uncle David Knight, known to many as Joe, who sadly passed away unexpectedly in September 2024 from a cardiac arrest caused by a pulmonary embolism. Losing him so suddenly was devastating for our family. He was kind, full of life and someone who always made those around him feel special.

Sadly, we faced another heartbreaking loss in November 2025 when my nana passed away following a long battle with heart failure. My nana was my whole world and being able to take on this challenge in memory of both my uncle and my nana means so much to me.

Heart health troubles are something that runs deep in my family. My mum has a rare heart condition that required an on-demand pacemaker and my nana previously underwent an aortic valve replacement.

Supporting Heart Research UK and helping fund research that can prevent others from experiencing the same heartbreak feels deeply personal.

Although I have not experienced heart problems myself, running has completely transformed my health and wellbeing. I have seen the difference a healthy lifestyle can make, and I want to use this journey to encourage others to look after their hearts too.

The Sydney Marathon is a bucket-list race for me and my first World Marathon Major. I will be living in Australia during this time, making the opportunity to represent my family and carry the memory of my uncle and nana with me on the other side of the world even more special.

Crossing that finish line will be an incredible achievement, but knowing I have done it for them and for such an important cause will make it truly unforgettable.
