My dad, Brendan was a family barrister in Chester, specialising in child care cases. After finishing his last court hearing before Christmas, he drove home and collapsed at the kitchen table. We later learnt he had high blood pressure and suffered from aortic dissection. Unless you have an aortic dissection in a specialist hospital, survival is unlikely.
Other family members have also suffered from heart and circulatory diseases, including strokes and dementia. The work done by Heart Research UK on heart conditions, especially aortic dissection, is critically important. I want to raise awareness of this and support HRUK’s research.
As a barrister myself since 2016, I want to highlight the link between mental and physical health. By supporting HRUK through challenges like the London Marathon and Ride 100, I hope to raise awareness of it all.
