Buying art for your home or workplace can make a great addition to any interior but price tags can often put off new time buyers from making a purchase. The fact that art varies depending on the value of the piece can be difficult for those who are on a budget.
But, no matter the size of your budget, this should not stop you from adding art to your interior space and making it feel like your own. We’ve created our top tips to show you how you can create your own collection without breaking the bank.
Identifying your budget
This might be the most obvious tip, but it is important to know your budget and ideally stick to it. Sticking to your budget means you can avoid the guilt ridden feeling after overspending on a piece of art and invest in other pieces of art which can continue to grow your collection. Having a rough idea means you can keep your first search focussed and grow your collection over time.

Pay in instalments
If there’s a piece of art you are desperate to have in your collection, but you can’t afford to pay it in full, a great alterative is paying the artwork off in instalments. Not only does this mean you can bag a piece of art you’ve been desperate to have in your collection, but it also means it is more affordable and overtime you’ll have a valuable piece.

Contact artists directly
A great way of making artwork stay within your budget is by contacting the artist directly for a piece of commissioned artwork. Obviously, depending on the artist this can vary however, could be a great way to expand your collection and to have a unique personalised piece of art.

Look out for smaller artists
A top tip is to not overlook up and coming artists. You can find stunning artwork to add to your collection by exploring newer artists, who are not as well known. This means you could be supporting an artist who is at the beginning of their career and have an amazing investment piece as the piece’s value can increase with time.

Small artwork by major artists
You’ve had your eye on a particular artist for a while but buying a piece of their artwork is out of the question. But believe it or not it is still possible if you aim for something smaller. Look out for artwork which you can identify as the artist’s by looking their signature style and subjects.

A great place to start to find smaller artwork by famous artists is our anonymous heART project. You can bid on A5 pieces of art which can work perfectly in your home. Visit our online auction now at https://heartresearch.org.uk/anonymous-heart/.
